Radcliffe Construction, the Huddersfield based specialist construction project management firm, has completed a £2million project to rebuild and refurbish The 3 Acres restaurant in Huddersfield after the venue was devastated by fire.
Radcliffe Construction was appointed as principal contractor for the project in September last year and has since overseen a comprehensive eight-month programme of works to the entire building.
Paul Radcliffe, director at Radcliffe Construction, said: “The level of fire damage at The 3 Acres was vast, meaning the scale of the work was equally large.
“One of the first major jobs in the project was to completely rebuild the restaurant kitchen which was destroyed in the fire, including fitting a new warm-deck roof, and coordinating the installation of a new £450,000 state-of-the-art commercial kitchen by Greens Commercial Kitchens.
“The rest of the building – the main restaurant, bar, and bedrooms – were severely smoke damaged meaning everything had to be stripped back right back to shell which had its advantages as it gave us a blank canvas to work with but also presented challenges as it brought to light some existing structural issues a building of the 3 Acres’ age was inevitably going to have.”
He added: “For the interior, owners Tom and Lauren were keen to reinstate but elevate the unmistakable identity The 3 Acres is known for. This meant careful planning for the installation of vast amounts of new pipework and wiring with our mechanical and electrical contractor to ensure the first fix was hidden and did not compromise the finished aesthetic.”
Tom Truelove, owner at The 3 Acres, said: “We are so grateful to the team at Radcliffe Construction for their professionalism and dedication to the project. We have quite literally had to rebuild the business from the ground up, and the Radcliffe Construction team has expertly project managed the whole process.”
Paul Radcliffe concluded: “This project is one I am very proud that Radcliffe Construction has delivered. As a Huddersfield-based company, we understand what The 3 Acres means to many people in the area, so it has been a privilege to work on bringing it back to life.
“Full credit goes to our management team who managed the anticipation and pressure surrounding the reopening fantastically, and to all the subcontractors who totally got on board with the ethos of the project and worked excellently as a team.”
