The Background
Set deep in the woodlands of Holmfirth, an old dye house stood quiet - steeped in character but crying out for a new chapter. The vision? To transform it into a warm, welcoming, and atmospheric Italian restaurant that blends rustic charm with modern flair.
Surrounded by trees and tucked beside a river, the location was as unique as the brief: preserve the soul of the building, introduce modern extensions, and create a destination venue complete with woodland walks and ample parking.
What We Did
Working with award winning architects ONE17, we began with a total strip-out and partial demolition, carefully peeling back the layers while protecting the building’s most striking original feature: the heavy oak trusses that now frame the heart of the restaurant.
To bring the new vision to life, we extended the building on both sides to create a bespoke kitchen on one wing and a striking new bar on the other. One external façade needed a complete rebuild and underpinning, and we delivered a full re-roof before any of the internal works began, to lay a solid foundation for what was to come.
Inside, we managed the entire fit-out from end to end, including the installation of a state-of-the-art kitchen, a showpiece bar and deli, and a 3-tonne pizza oven.
The Result
What stands now is a stunning destination restaurant that feels both rooted in history and built for now.
The interiors are warm and modern, the mechanical systems are future-proof, and the customer experience begins the moment they pull into the new permeable gravel car park, complete with a bespoke drainage system designed in collaboration with the Environment Agency - essential on a floodplain, and a perfect example of smart design meeting natural surroundings.
The result is a venue with real soul, and a story behind every stone.
